Introduction to Virtual Trucking
Welcome to the world of Virtual Trucking! In the real world, there are various companies and organizations dedicated to the safe transportation of cargo. The different services provided by these companies may be: 1) Over The Road (Long Haul) services across long distances. 2)Local Work (Report to the same location and the start and end of each day. 3) Dump Truck services. 4)Tow truck and recovery services. And a whole lot more.
In general, these companies operate by the purchase of tractors (semi truck cabs) or Box Trucks (trucks with their own storage attachment IE Strait Truck). After purchase of the equipment, the company then hires drivers to operate the trucks and thus deliver the cargo.
Most of the major carriers get their product via purchasing CONTRACTS with manufacturers. In order to secure the CONTRACT, the carrier will BID on the contract. Whoever provides the best terms and negotiations in the BIDDING will win the CONTRACT.
Example: Walmart needs (X) ammount of freight hauled and distributed around the United States. They post this information OR contact companies that transport cargo. Examples of these companies would be Swift, JB Hunt, Knight Transport, Gordon Trucking, or other smaller outfits or "mom and pop" companies. These carriers then BID on the freight - offering terms and conditions to Walmart on their expectations and needs to deliver the freight. Walmart would then review the submitted proposals and pick one or more of the carriers and give them the contract.
This concept applies to Virtual Trucking. In a way.
Virtual Trucking is the operation of virtual cargo mainly via video games dedicated to the transportation of cargo: 18 Wheels of Steel series, Rig N Roll, American Truck Simulator, Euro Truck Simulator, exc.
A Virtual Company is created by someone who creates a website, forum, or different means to get the Virtual company started. After that, they create a promotional package (written list) of the benefits and perks of working for their virtual carrier as compared to other virtual carriers. This is to simulate the process one may actually go through to get employment in the Transportation Industry in real life.
After reviewing the company information, the gamer or "applicant" will then have to apply to the company. Some companies make forms for you to fill out and some use the "copy and paste" format of a premade application form. The information needed in the application process varies from company to company.
Once submitting the application, the application information is reviewed by the virtual company. Some VTC's may hire the driver emediately upon acceptance of the application while others will give the driver an interview questionare or some other things they need to do to finish the qualification process. Once everything is finished, the driver is hired and begins their virtual career with whatever company they chose.
